As one of the first private companies in the German scrap and recycling industry, M. Kaatsch GmbH has been certified since February 1996 in accordance with the quality management system of DIN EN ISO 9001. Since August 2005, Kaatsch has also been certified in accordance with the environmental management system DIN EN ISO 14001.
The developments in clear processes, structures and responsibilities in the internal corporate layout, which were prompted by Kaatsch management at the start of the 1990s, established the firm’s successful entry into the quality management system.
With successful certification in accordance with DIN EN ISO, Kaatsch then exceeded the requirements demanded by the legislators arising from the Closed Substance Cycle and Waste Management Act (KrW-/AbfG) on a voluntary basis. As a result, certification as a waste management facility and certification according to the Used Vehicles Ordinance quickly followed in August 1997 and on 01/04/1998 respectively.
One of the company’s aims is to realise voluntary and continual environmental improvement beyond the legal parameters. The necessary basic conditions are laid down in the environmental management system of DIN EN ISO 14001:2005.
It remains to be seen whether legislators’ requirements on companies in waste management, which have always increased in the past, will also continue to increase in the future.
This is the result not least of increased public awareness of environmentally-relevant processes.
With the successful implementation of the new quality management systems in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 in 2002, M. Kaatsch GmbH has already successfully mastered the next hurdle.

M. Kaatsch GmbH sees through legislative measures in the forefront due to active staff in the professional bodies of our associations, who have a consultative role in the legislative process.
We are demonstrably in a position to react quickly to changed requirements. In this context, quick means that conditions must very frequently be fulfilled before they have come into force, in order to maintain business areas, or to be able to restructure these as necessary.
In this manner, we guarantee the necessary legal certainty in dealing with waste and secondary raw materials for our customers and suppliers and provide extensive know-how on all legal waste management issues. As a result, our customers can be certain that all environmentally-relevant aspects have been considered.
