Recycling is increasingly gaining in significance in industry, retail and local government. Schrott- und Metallhandel M. Kaatsch GmbH makes an important contribution to recycling and relieving the environment through its proper disposal, storage and processing of secondary raw materials, in addition to trade in steel and non-ferrous metal scrap.
With an expert team of approx. 120 employees, flexible approaches to buying and selling and a readiness to have dialogue with customers, our traditional company presents itself as a reliable partner skilled in every respect in recycling scrap, metals and matured timber.
The company’s history began with a small dealer with a handcart who went through the streets collecting old iron, metals, paper and rags.
From this to a small operation with a horse and cart, to a company that has developed into a processing plant with its own dock.
A new era in the company’s history has begun with the creation of a modern scrap yard with ample infrastructure, a new administration building, construction of the wharfage, the storage expansion with railway line, fixed roadways and storage areas, and with the erection of a roofed, environmentally-friendly chip warehouse.
Thanks to the expansion of the wharfage in 1987 and 1996/96 and the procurement of mobile, large hydraulic equipment for loading and unloading of ships, business activity has been expanded to the European market and sales have been intensified in outside markets.
Starting up the latest scrap cutter in October 1994 enabled the company to meet industry’s continually growing need for optimal scrap quality.
The cutter presses and cuts up to 80 tonnes of scrap steel an hour with a cutting force of 1,250 tonnes. This largely avoids the conventional environmentally-unfriendly flame cutting processes.
Today, M. Kaatsch GmbH handles around 500,000 tonnes annually on its total 70,000 m2 storage areas in and around Plochingen.
Thanks to continual improvements in overall logistics and infrastructure expansions, Kaatsch GmbH’s satisfied customer base includes steel works and foundries across the entire European Union, as well as overseas and in Asia.
